About Vietnamese Dong Exchange

The Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the official currency of Vietnam, issued by the State Bank of Vietnam and used throughout the country for everyday transactions. We accept all denominations of Vietnamese Dong banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Vietnamese Dong Banknotes

Vietnam’s current banknotes are printed on polymer and are known for their durability and vibrant designs, featuring imagery of Vietnamese landscapes and historical figures. The range covers a variety of denominations, with the higher-value notes — such as the 200,000 and 500,000 Dong — being the ones most commonly brought back by UK travellers. We accept all current polymer banknotes regardless of denomination, so whether you have a handful of smaller notes or a stack of the larger ones, we can exchange the lot.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept older cotton-paper Vietnamese Dong banknotes that predate Vietnam’s switch to polymer. These withdrawn notes are rarely accepted elsewhere in the UK — most banks will not touch them — but we treat them just as we do other exotic withdrawn currencies, such as Lao Kip or Indonesian Rupiah. Damaged notes are also accepted provided they are at least 50% intact; the rate for old or damaged notes will be slightly lower than for current polymer series.

Vietnamese Dong Coins

We accept Vietnamese Dong coins, including denominations such as the 5,000 and 2,000 Dong pieces. Coins attract a slightly lower exchange rate than banknotes due to handling costs, but unlike most UK currency exchange services, we won’t turn you away simply because you’ve come home with a pocketful of change.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Vietnamese Dong Exchange FAQ

Can I exchange Vietnamese Dong at a UK bank?

No — Vietnamese Dong is considered an exotic currency, and most UK high street banks and post offices do not offer exchange services for it at all. We specialise in currencies like the Dong that are difficult to exchange through mainstream channels, so sending your leftover notes to us is one of the most straightforward options available to UK customers returning from Vietnam.

Do you accept the older cotton-paper Vietnamese Dong banknotes as well as the current polymer ones?

Yes, we accept both the current polymer banknotes and the older cotton-paper notes that were in circulation before Vietnam transitioned to polymer currency. Older series notes may attract a slightly lower rate, but there is no need to worry if you have a mixture of note types — simply include them all in the same envelope.

How do I send my Vietnamese Dong and when will I be paid?

Returning from Vietnam with leftover Dong is more common than you might think, and the process for exchanging it with us is straightforward. Pack your banknotes and coins securely and post them to us yourself using a postal service of your choice. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal — and if you are not happy with our offer for any reason, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Are Vietnamese Dong coins accepted, and is it worth sending them?

Yes, we do accept Vietnamese Dong coins, including denominations such as the 5,000 and 2,000 Dong pieces. The exchange rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but we are one of the few UK services that will exchange them at all, so it is generally worth including your coins rather than leaving them in a drawer.

I have a mix of 500,000 and lower-denomination Dong notes — do you accept all of them?

Yes! We accept all current polymer Dong denominations, including the 500,000 Dong note, which is the highest denomination in circulation and the one most frequently sent to us by UK travellers returning from Vietnam. There is no need to sort or separate your notes by denomination — simply send everything together and we will assess the full bundle.
