About Australian Dollar Exchange
The Australian Dollar (AUD) is the official currency of Australia, introduced in 1966 to replace the Australian Pound. We accept all denominations of Australian Dollar banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Australian Dollar Banknotes
Australia’s current banknotes are printed on polymer — a durable, flexible plastic developed in Australia that is now used by currencies around the world. The series includes a range of denominations, all featuring prominent Australians and sophisticated security features such as transparent windows and colour-shifting ink. We exchange all current polymer notes, including the $100 note and the $50 note, as well as smaller denominations such as the $5 note.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept withdrawn Australian banknotes, including older paper issues that predate the polymer era. The original paper notes — such as the 1973 $50 note and the 1984 $100 note — along with withdrawn $1 and $2 paper banknotes, are all accepted. We also accept damaged notes provided they are at least 50% intact; the rate will be slightly lower to reflect the condition or age of the note.
Australian Dollar Coins
We accept the full range of current Australian coins, including the $2 coin and the 50 cent coin, as well as smaller denominations such as the 5 cent coin. We also accept the demonetised 1 cent and 2 cent coins, which have been out of circulation since 1992. Rates on coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved.
